Beim letzten Treffen waren fünf Mitstreiter anwesend und wir haben uns über die nächsten Schritte beraten. Der wichtigste Punkt auf der Tagesordnung war natürlich die Besprechung von Raumoptionen für einen möglichen Coworking Space in Magdeburg. Obwohl noch keine endgültige Entscheidung getroffen wurde, zeichnet sich inzwischen eine Option als vielversprechend ab.
Laut Christian Metzeler gäbe es die Möglichkeit, das Coworking in den derzeit leerstehenden Büroräumen der webvariants GbR ohne große Risiken auszuprobieren. Momentan handelt es sich dabei um einen Raum (ca 30 m²), der in den kommenden Monaten aber um einen zweiten Raum und eine gemeinsam genutzte Küche erweitert wird. Diese Idee wurde von allen Anwesenden diskutiert und als eine geeignete Lösung für den Start des Coworking Space empfunden. Die Räume könnten als Pilotprojekt dienen und eine ernsthafte Anlaufstelle für alle werden, die Coworking für sich einmal ausprobieren wollen. Bei der Diskussion wurde aber auch deutlich, dass langfristig ein größerer und Raum mit niedrigerer Miete gefunden werden müsste.
Weiterhin wurde die Idee besprochen, sich bei den kommenden Planungen auch mit dem Verein Netz39 (der sich gerade in der Gründung befindet) abzusprechen, da dieser vor ähnlichen Herausforderungen steht wie der Coworking Space und sich die Zusammenarbeit mitunter für beide Seiten lohnen könnte. Der Kontakt zu Netz39 wurde bereits von Gregor hergestellt.
Beim kommenden Webmontag soll der bisherige Fortschritt des Coworking Space vorgestellt und um weitere Interessierte geworben werden. Dazu soll noch vor dem Webmontag ein weiteres Treffen stattfinden (Terminfindung folgt). Geschlossen wurde das Treffen mit der Verteilung von offenen Aufgaben.

As too often I see discussions mainly around space… What are you doing to build and educate a community of people that have a need for Coworking and would in time hopefully come together in your space? I argue and am showing that as Coworking is still a fairly new fenomen and not everyone gets it, there is a need to explain and show people. TheWorks has no space but a community of more than 150 that get together online and offline and the last 6 months TheWorks has organized 7 so-called Jellies (casual Coworking events). Jellies can happen in any suitabe place and are ideal to get the word out and the people in.
Just thought I’d give you the tip.

Thanks for your helpful comment on founding a coworking initiative. Seems to be a good idea to think more about the community than the space, especially in this early stage. We were also thinking about how to spread the idea of coworking on as much people as possible. I really think that we should follow your example and try some jellies in public locations..

I also appreciate this idea as I think, the more popularity the idea of a coworking-space gets, the easier will it be to find enough people and users to really open up a fix location. Therefore I also think we should try it out and find a place for it in Magdeburg within a Cafe or else within the next weeks.

Didn’t come across the idea to simply start building up the community while working in public locations but sure – why not? Dunno if Magdeburg offers any suitable infrastructure yet, but even if this is not the case – things can change if we just request it, right?
